Mechanics: Skills

Skills are actions that a character has put special effort into excelling at.

Having a bonus in a particular skill adds to the character's Precision when they roll for that particular action. Skills can give a bonus between 1 and 5. When acquiring a skill, choose the two Attributes that the skill is based on. The bonus for that skill will apply when you perform the action using those two Attributes.

Example: Frank has been practicing his driving. Frank relies on his reflexes when he drives, so when he makes a Driving check he rolls Quickness (d4) + Intuition (d10). He also has two points in his Driving skill. While chasing some Yakuza thugs, he hits a slick patch and must roll Driving to maintain control of his truck. The GM sets the thresholds at 9/2. He rolls a 2 and a 5, giving him a Precision of 7 and Impact of 3. With his roll alone he should fail because his Precision isn't enough to prevail, but his 2 points of Driving skill bump his Precision up to a 9 -- just enough to tie the threshold and stay in the chase!
