Mechanics: Rolling Checks
When you attempt something and the GM decides there's a significant chance of failure, you will roll a check for the event.
The GM will decide target thresholds for both the check’s Precision and Impact. The exact numbers for these thresholds may be kept secret, but the GM should give the players some sense of the difficulty of each threshold. Once the thresholds are decided, the player will roll the appropriate Attributes’ dice pools and choose two dice from the results, calculating the roll’s Precision and Impact from the chosen dice. The player will then compare these values to the thresholds set by the GM. If both meet or surpass their respective target thresholds, the attempt succeeds.
Example: Frank is trying to push a boulder up a long hill. The GM determines that he should roll Power + Endurance to see how he does. Frank's Power is d8/d4 and his Endurance is d10/d6/d4. He combines these two into a single pool of five dice: d10/d8/d6/d4/d4. He rolls these together, getting respective results of: 4, 6, 5, 2, and 4. Since he believes a higher Impact roll is more important for this task than high Precision, he chooses the 6 (rolled on the d8) and the 2 (rolled on one of the d4s) for a result with a Precision of 8 and an Impact of 4. Both of these values surpass the thresholds that the GM determined beforehand, so Frank's feat of strength is successful.
